Skin Cancer & Prevention

Skin cancer is on the increase and it is important to recognise signs early, particularly in the case of the most dangerous form of skin cancer, melanoma. There is a well established relationship between UV light, which comes from both the sun and sun beds, and the development of skin cancer. There are many different types of skin cancer but the most common are:

The different names relate to the skin cells from which they arise. BCCs and SCCs are known as non melanoma skin cancers and are more common than melanoma. BCCs follow a relatively benign course but SCCs, if left, can spread to other parts of the body. In the case of melanoma, early detection and removal saves lives.
